In receipt of your alegram ho. 2L7 of the nu instant Sir John Jordan telegraphed to the covernor of ion kong to enquire whether there were any indications of an intention to open a dranch of the Bank of China in that Colony. I have now received

a reply to the affect that thereseum to be no intention of doing so in the immediate future.

I therefore propose with your concurrence to take

no action at present beyond requesting Sir H. Zay to be good enough to inform me of any local uevolupe ments which may occur in order that representations may be made to the hinese overnment should thu
